The Farm to Fork strategy aims to alter food consumption habits, specifically by decreasing red meat intake and promoting plant-based alternatives. However, Member States with strong agricultural traditions are resistant, seeking to safeguard the meat industry. Initially a minority stance, this resistance appears to be spreading across other EU countries. The authority to restrict the naming of plant-based products as meat alternatives may lie with the European Court of Justice. Despite scientific assessments, emerging evidence indicates increasing opposition within EU Member States toward lab-grown meat's future.

The Proposal of a Green Claims Directive Journal Artikel

Paola Corte

European Food and Feed Law Review, Jahrgang 18 (2023), Ausgabe 3, Seite 152 - 156

The European Commission has proposed  the ‘green claims directive’ that sets out requirements for traders to ensure that explicit environmental claims meet substantiation requirements and disclose minimum information publicly. These claims are made in textual form or in an environmental label. The proposal requires verification by an accredited third party conformity assessment body before the claims are made public. The proposal aims to increase environmental protection, protect consumers and companies from greenwashing, and create a level playing field on the internal market. However, it may also heavily burden traders who want to communicate their efforts to improve the environmental performance of their products.
