France: Group Action: The Food Industry Is Not Targeted (Yet)

After a 30-year spirited debate fuelled by the companies’ fear of abusive and destructive mass litigation, the group action was finally introduced in France by the new Consumer Law of 17March 2014. It came into force on 4 October 2014. The aim pursued by the French legislatorwas to reprehend the lucrative practice of small contractual abuses and violations that are never challenged by consumers due to the small amounts at stake.
