After a 30-year spirited debate fuelled by the companies’ fear of abusive and destructive mass litigation, the group action was finally introduced in France by the new Consumer Law of 17March 2014. It came into force on 4 October 2014. The aim pursued by the French legislatorwas to reprehend the lucrative practice of small contractual abuses and violations that are never challenged by consumers due to the small amounts at stake.



A Scientific Report Rekindles the Controversy over Energy Drinks in France journal article

On October 1st, 2013, the French food safety and environment agency (ANSES) published a report demonstrating its concern about the safety of Energy Drinks. The study demonstrates that energy drinks have deleterious cardiovascular and psychological effects. ANSES considers that reported strokes concerned presumably genetically predisposed individuals, and occurred when the drinks were combined with additional risk factors such as physical activity, alcohol, medication, or an individual sensitivity to caffeine. However, the other cardiovascular and psychological effects observed by ANSES resemble classic adverse reactions to high caffeine intake.
