Austria: Allergen Information for Non-Prepacked Foods journal article Eva Maria Kostenzer European Food and Feed Law Review, Volume 9 (2014), Issue 6, Page 403 - 405 The new Regulation (EU) 1169/2011 on the provision of food information to consumers (“FIC”) consolidates, but also modifies, existing legislation on food labelling. As far as information on allergens1 is concerned, it is no longer sufficient to indicate those substances on the label of prepacked foods. According to Art. 21, para. 1, lit. b FIC, the name of the allergen also has to be emphasized in a way that clearly distinguishes it from the rest of the listed ingredients, e.g. by means of the font.
