Polish Feed Safety: GMO Feeds and Medicated Feeds

Iwona Wrześniewska-Wal

Poland's and the EU's food security is based on a field-to-table strategy and biodiversity. One of the most important problems currently facing the European Union is the availability of protein. As a result, Member States, are taking a wide variety of measures to change this unfavorable trend. Intensive work is currently underway in Poland to assess the possibility of providing a domestic source of protein, to reduce feed from genetically modified plants, due to its high production costs, for example, for poultry and other animals. At the same time, legislative work has already been completed in Poland on the voluntary certification of ‘GMO-free’ products, as well as on the manufacture, marketing, and use of medicated feeds and the official control of these feeds.
