Poland ∙ Excise Stamps as a Legal Issue in the Polish Wine Market journal article Jakub M. Doliński European Food and Feed Law Review, Volume 12 (2017), Issue 5, Page 443 - 445 In 2010, Poles drank 97 million litres of wine, while in 2016 consumption stood at 107 litres of wine. In 2015, Polish wine imports amounted to $237 million (€212 million), which confirmed Poland as the largest wine importer in central Europe. Whereas 62.9% of total Polish wine imports is controlled by producers from Western Europe and 13.3% from South America (with distinctive supremacy of Chile), all of the importers are facing a problem with Polish excise stamps. Poland is one of the last European countries where excise stamps are still a valid requirement for alcohol importers. Few important legal issues that concern them are presently implemented to the Polish Wine Act.
